Freefilesync Donation Edition
- The download page and auto-updater will remain active for some time to download future updates of the FreeFileSync Donation Edition. The update interval is one year, assuming a €20 donation, and adapted otherwise, e.g. 6 months for a €10 donation, 2 years for a €40 donation.
- Insert your USB drive. Double click the setup exe file (FreeFileSyncv5.0setup.exe) Accept the license agreement. Click Portable - this doesn't install to your computer, instead it allows you to run FreeFileSync directly from your USB drive. Change the installation path to your USB drive and folder name FreeFileSync.
- Later Versions Broken and Pay-For-Portable: All versions of FreeFileSync after 6.2 are broken and can't be run from other apps. This prevents packaging, use of the base portable version with menus like the PortableApps.com Platform, use of the local version with a scheduler, use of the local version with an alternative start menu, etc. Details are in this bug report from March 7.

I am in need for a good File synchronizer, and FreeFileSync seems the best option there now. I have researched around and there seems no major issue except with Norton. Their site, freefilesync.org FAQ has the following: 'Some anti-virus programs, most notably Norton by Symantec may falsely flag the installer as dangerous and delete it without providing further info. This is because Norton uses a so-called 'reputation-based heuristic', which will simply delete all files that are not well known or commonly downloaded.'
The latest Norton forum discussion was from 2013. What is the latest on this? Given FreeFileSync has been around at least a decade, has Norton finally acknowledged it as Ok? What is the recommendation to install? Thank you in advance.

I got it from MS site and it runs fine on W10.
I use the Echo mode which copies files from the Source to the Backup drive.
It will do adds, deletions, moves and renames. It's all in the Help section.
When I run it I always do the Preview to see what it is doing and it gives you a choice to unselect something if you want. Then I hit Run.
